The Forgotten Heroes of British Motoring — A Celebration

Ask most people to name a great British car and they'll reach for the obvious answers — the Mini, the E-Type Jaguar, the Land Rover. And they wouldn't be wrong. But Britain's motoring history is far richer and stranger than the famous names suggest.
Consider the Reliant Robin, a three-wheeled marvel of stubborn engineering that somehow sold in enormous numbers despite its, shall we say, unconventional relationship with the laws of physics. Or the Bond Bug, an extraordinary wedge-shaped three-wheeler in tangerine orange that looked like it had arrived from a parallel dimension where the 1970s went differently.
Then there are the racing stories that never quite got the Hollywood treatment — the privateer drivers who scraped together sponsorship to compete at Le Mans, the small British manufacturers who went head to head with Ferrari on a fraction of the budget and occasionally won. British motorsport has always punched above its weight, powered by ingenuity, stubbornness and an almost irrational belief that a better solution is always possible.
The golden age of British motoring was defined not just by the cars themselves but by the culture around them — the motor shows, the racing circuits, the roadside cafes where enthusiasts gathered on Sunday mornings to argue passionately about carburetors. That culture deserves to be remembered.
