The Austin 1800, nicknamed the "Landcrab," performed exceptionally well in the grueling 1968 London to Sydney Marathon. BMC entered five factory-prepared cars, and all finished in the top 25 , which was a remarkable achievement given the 16,000 km distance through harsh terrain across Europe, Asia, and Australia.

Paddy Hopkirk drove an Austin 1800 to second place overall , narrowly missing victory after stopping to help injured drivers in a dramatic accident near the finish. Rauno Aaltonen finished fifth overall in another factory 1800 . The car's front-wheel drive, robust construction, and Hydrolastic suspension proved ideal for the demanding conditions, showcasing British engineering on the world stage in this legendary marathon rally.

This lightweight cotton tee portrays the conditions the cars experienced in the Australian outback all those years ago .
