Evercreech Junction. The name alone is enough to stop a Somerset & Dorset enthusiast in their tracks.

For over a century, Evercreech Junction was the operational heart of the S&D — the point where the original Somerset & Dorset main line from Wimborne met the Bath Extension of 1874, creating the junction that gave the station its name and its purpose. The locomotive shed here maintained the powerful 7F 2-8-0s that were the S&D's heavy artillery, the engines capable of hauling loaded trains over the fearsome gradients of the Mendip Hills between Evercreech and Bath Green Park. On summer Saturdays the station was a spectacle: holiday expresses banked by a pilot engine, crews changed, the whole controlled chaos of a busy junction at the peak of the holiday traffic era.

The Pines Express — the prestige named service running Manchester London Road to Bournemouth West via the S&D — called at Evercreech Junction on every run, briefly making it one of the most photographed stations in England among enthusiasts who made pilgrimages to capture the sight of a heavy express cresting the Mendips. When the Pines Express was diverted away from the S&D route in September 1962 it was the clearest possible signal that the line's days were numbered. Evercreech Junction closed with the rest of the Somerset & Dorset on 7 March 1966. The site has largely returned to farmland, but the name endures in the memory of everyone who loved the S&D.

This 11oz ceramic mug commemorates Evercreech Junction and the Somerset & Dorset in vintage style — the ideal companion for the S&D devotee's morning brew. Pairs perfectly with the Belchampian Bath Green Park t-shirt, mug, and tote — all part of the Somerset & Dorset heritage collection.
