Flowers Breweries was founded in Stratford-upon-Avon in 1831 by Edward Flowers — one of the great names of West Midlands brewing. Acquired by Whitbread in 1954, the Flowers brand and its flagship keg bitter, Brewmaster, became a staple of the Whitbread tied estate across the West Country and West Midlands throughout the 1960s. When Whitbread absorbed West Country Breweries — itself formed from the merger of Stroud Brewery and Cheltenham & Hereford Breweries — Flowers Brewmaster became the house beer in pubs from the Cotswolds to the Marches. For a generation of Cheltenham drinkers it was simply what beer tasted like.
The great brewery consolidations of the 1960s eventually submerged Brewmaster into the homogenised national lager tide, but the name and the logo — bold, confident, and unmistakably of its era — have never quite been forgotten by anyone who remembers them. This retro tee brings them back.
