In 1967, one of only two MGC GTS lightweight works cars ever built was campaigned across some of the most demanding road circuits in motorsport. Known affectionately as "Mabel," this extraordinary machine was the product of the MG Competitions Department at Abingdon — a stripped-out, lightweight evolution of the MGC designed to compete at the highest level of international GT racing.

The Targa Florio — run on the terrifying 45-mile Piccolo Madonie circuit in the mountains of Sicily — was among the most challenging events on the international calendar, a race that destroyed fragile machinery and rewarded engineering integrity above all else. Mabel ran there in 1967 alongside appearances at the Nürburgring 1000km and Sebring 12 Hours, building a competition record across three seasons from 1967 to 1969 that demonstrated what the MG works team could achieve when given the tools and the freedom to race properly.

Only two MGC GTS cars were ever made. Mabel is one of motorsport's rare genuine survivors — a works racing car with a documented competition history that spans three of the greatest road circuits in the world.
