In the late 1950's the Stroud Brewery Co Ltd merged with Cheltenham & Hereford Breweries Ltd to form West Country Breweries Ltd. At this point they adopted the “castle/tower” logo and the “Best in the West” motto, and the brand “West Country Ales " Ceramic wall plaques adorned their pubs throughout the Cotswolds and can still be seen on may former West Country Ales tied houses to this day
